BASAL GANGLIA lesions and Dancers

Chorea

🍀Rapid, purposeless, random movements.
🍀Rythmic but non-pattern.
🍀Examples: Huntington chorea, Sydenham chorea
Remember this guy

Athetosis

🍀Slow, wormlike, convoluted, writhing movements of the fingers, hands, toes, and feet and in some cases, arms, legs, neck and tongue. 
🍀Lesions in corpus striatum.
🍀Seen in Huntington disease.
Remember Indian dancers.


Hemiballism

🍀Violent projectile movement of a limb and hip
🍀Typically the upper limb, contralateral to the lesion
🍀Lesion in contralateral subthalamic nucleus
Remember the King MJ
